OCBC Committees - Workforce Development
     

WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE
The Workforce Development Committee  of the Orange County Business Council is a coalition of business leaders, education and training professionals and community partners working to create a high quality workforce with particular emphasis on developing math and science skills needed by Orange County Employers.  The Committee impliments its mission by:

  • informing Orange County on education issues 
  • collaborating  and advocating  on behalf of our partnerships
  • identifying the skills needed for a highly trained workforce
  • strengthening business and education partnerships in order to promote economic success

The committee serves OCBC members and investors, community neighborhoods and region, and  strives to empower parents and students to prepare for the jobs of tomorrow.

COMMITTEE CHAIR - RICHARD PORRAS
Michael KellyRichard is the Past Chair of the board of directors of the Greater Santa Ana Business Alliance, he is the Past Chairman and current board member of the Orange County Taxpayers Association; He is the currently the President of the Boys/Girls Club of Santa Ana, and a board member of the Orange Coast and Vanguard University Foundations. Richard is the current Chairman of High School Inc working with the Santa Ana School Board and Greater Santa Ana Business Alliance. Porras also sits the Girl Scouts of Orange County board as well as the Drug Use Is Life Abuse board for the Orange County Sheriff Advisory board and most recently, chairs OCBC's Latino Educational Attaintment initiative. WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT LEGISLATION
SBX5_1 or “Race to the Top” – OCBC was pleased to support President Barack Obama’s “Race to the Top” stimulus opportunity that would allow the state of California to apply for as much as $700 million of the $4.35 billion in education grants released by the federal government.  This legislation has been the top workforce and education priority for the Business Council and is proud that through its lobbying efforts to see the passed and signed by the Governor.  OCBC will continue to take the lead on the legislation and be working to ensure that our schools have every opportunity to succeed.
