The Orange County Business Council has returned from Sacramento for the second of its Two Capitols, One Voice advocacy trips. The Business Council exchanged ideas with legislative leaders, the Schwarzenegger Administration as well some of the most prominent lobbyists and members of the Capitol press corps. 

OCBC would also like to thank the Children and Families Commission of Orange County, the Disneyland Resort, Ford Motor Company, the Metropolitan Water District and Michael Brandman Associates for making this Advocacy trip a success.

Governor Appoints OCBC President and CEO Lucy Dunn to
California Transportation Commission!

The Governor has announced that Lucy Dunn will serve as one of the nine Commissioners for the California Transportation Commission. The CTC is a key decision maker in the planning of California’s transportation programs. This is a tremendous opportunity for the business community as Dunn advocates for proactive, sustainable solutions to the state's pressing infrastructure needs.

OCBC Hosts Attorney General Jerry Brown

Attorney General Jerry Brown joined OCBC the afternoon of May 13 for an informal discussion on key issues facing the business community.  The former Governor and Mayor of Oakland shared his insights from a lifetime spent in California government.  “The fact is that things were a good deal simpler in a California of 24 million versus today’s state of 38 million,” said Brown.

In February, the Coastal Commission voted against completion of the 241 Toll Road. However, the Transportation Corridor Agency remains committed to seeing this project through and has filed an appeal to the Secretary of Commerce, requesting that the Coastal Commission vote be overturned.

OCBC Supports Governor’s Efforts to Expand Public-Private Partnerships
OCBC expressed deep disappointment today that legislation that could have saved the state millions and infused literally billions of dollars in new investments failed to pass through a State Assembly committee. Assembly Bill 2600 (Niello) would have authorized the use of “Performance Based Infrastructure” to allow increased collaboration between the public and private sectors in the construction of needed infrastructure.

OCBC was honored to host California Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O’Connell at its April 24 Workforce Development committee meeting. Committee Chairman Chris Harrington of Toshiba presided over a packed meeting as the Superintendent spoke about key education and workforce issues, including the state budget's impact on education funding.

OCBC's Annual Dinner a huge success!

OCBC's 2008 Annual Dinner, "The Road Ahead," was attended by over 300 business and community leaders last night. The evening featured the installation of OCBC's 2008 board of directors, as well as the swearing in of 2008 chairman Steve Lenzi of the Automobile Club of Southern California.

Nationally syndicated columnist George F. Will, left, delivered a lively keynote presentation of his views on American government, including the history of its policy decisions and the future of its electoral politics.

Attendees also joined in a tribute to longtime publisher and CEO of the Orange County Register, Chris Anderson, right given by Los Angeles Times publisher and CEO David D. Hiller.
