U.S. Department of Labor approves OC Pathway’s apprenticeship program

Dec112023 Dec 11, 2023 The U.S. Department of Labor has approved OC Pathways’—the Orange County Department of Education’s career technical education (CTE) program—newly launched apprenticeship program. The program, led by a countywide consortium of industry leaders and organizations, aligns with Gov. Newsom’s statewide goal to create 500,000 apprenticeships by 2029. The U.S. Department of Labor’s approval, during National Apprenticeship Week, highlights OC Pathway’s efforts to expand apprenticeship courses for learners, creating talent pipelines while supporting the economy and underserved communities.

OC Power Authority recognized as top U.S. green power provider

Dec112023 Dec 11, 2023 Orange County Power Authority (OCPA) was recognized by National Renewable Energy Laboratory’s (NREL) 2022 Utility Green Pricing Program as one of the top U.S. green power providers in 2022. Also known as a Community Choice Aggregation (CCA), OCPA exceeded the mandatory state requirements for the purchase of renewable energy as well as its voluntary renewable energy goals for retail service during its first year. OCPA serves over 230,000 customers in Orange County offering clean energy from solar, wind, biomass, geothermal and hydroelectric sources.

I-405 improvements open

Dec112023 Dec 11, 2023 Transportation leaders and elected officials marked the completion of the Orange County Transportation Authority’s (OCTA) I-405 Improvement Project on Dec. 1. The opening of a new lane in each direction, and the 405 Express Lanes, aims to improve travel times along one of the nation’s busiest highways. Constructed in cooperation with the California Department of Transportation, the I-405 Improvement Project was part of Measure M, Orange County’s half-cent sales tax for transportation. The largest undertaking in OCTA’s history, the project is expected to improve travel times along this 16-mile stretch of freeway and accommodate expected growth in employment, population and housing throughout the region

With six categories, the awards program recognizes public agencies and leaders for implementing policies and programs that cut through red tape, eliminate barriers to economic growth and open doors to private sector jobs creation in Orange County.
