About Leading Educational Attainment
Since 2004, Orange County Business Councils’ Leading Educational Attainment for Families Initiative (LEA) has been equipping Orange County families to help their children navigate the road to college and a successful future. For families new to the school system in California and the United States, the 10 Education Essentials for Families Workbook empowers families to be the best advocates for their children’s education, preparing them for their future—whether it’s attending community college, a four-year university or career education. Through a collaborative effort led by Orange County Business Council, local businesses and the education community are committed to this initiative that prepares Orange County’s workforce from where it all begins—at home. LEA’s 10 Education Essentials for Families Workbooks are free to all Orange County schools.
LEA Accomplishments
- Developed and printed 30,000 copies of the 10 Educational Commandments for Parents workbook (former workbook title) in English and Spanish.
- Translated fourth edition into Arabic, Korean, Spanish and Vietnamese.
- Encouraged and empowered over 15,000 families with the 10 Education Essentials workbook.
- Participated in the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics.
- Highlighted LEA as a promising practice program at the Orange County State of Education Forum.
- Recipient of the 2009 Estrella Award in Education from the Orange County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
- Recognized with an Appreciation Award by Anaheim Elementary School District.

The LEA Podcast and Video Series provides practical guidance for Orange County families through conversations with educators, subject matter experts, community leaders and families.
Topics include learning at home, grades and school systems, high school graduation requirements, financial aid, and college and career planning. Episodes are available in English and Spanish.
Hosted by OCBC Business Initiatives Manager Maria Linares and Orange County Department of Education Family and Community Engagement Coordinator Janis Price, the series is produced in partnership with Orange County Department of Education Communications and Media Services, with support from Chevron.
New episodes premiere every other week.

Orange County Business Council and AT&T are working together to expand digital access for Orange County students through a new technology distribution initiative.
Facilitated by OCBC Board Member Dan Vozenilek, Director of External & Legislative Affairs for AT&T, this $20,000 community investment enabled OCBC to purchase 60 laptops for students in need, supporting families participating in LEA. Laptops were distributed across the Santa Ana Unified School District and Garden Grove Unified School District.

The LEA Committee works with schools and community partners to discuss best practices and to develop solutions that make the program more accessible throughout Orange County and beyond.
