To mark the first anniversary of North America’s first-ever clean hydrogen powered microgrid and home, SoCalGas recently invited OCBC to tour the 2,000 square-foot [H2] Innovation Experience ([H2]IE) home in Downey. An example of how carbon-free gas made from renewable electricity can fuel energy systems and communities, the home harnesses solar power to convert excess renewable energy into clean hydrogen that’s blended with natural gas. The blend fuels basics in the home—like a tankless water heater, clothes dryer, hydrogen-natural gas blended oven, fireplace, and outdoor grill. A key part of the microgrid, the electrolyzer, was built in Orange County at UCI.
